Have you asked ChatGPT if it knows your business yet?
Neither you nor I are the only ones.
Millions of people in Spain and Latin America ask language models questions before opening Google.
And if your brand doesn’t appear in those responses, you are losing visibility against competitors who are being mentioned.
In this guide, I explain what a visibility checker in AI is, what metrics really matter, how to do a free manual check, and when it makes sense to automate it with a tool.
What is visibility in AI and why does it matter?
Visibility in AI measures whether your brand appears (and how often and in what context) within the responses generated by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews when someone asks a question related to your industry.
In other words, if you search for better marketing agencies in Montevideo, you want to be there.
Previously, users made five searches on Google. Now they ask a question on ChatGPT and act on the response they receive. If your brand is not in that response, the user does not discover it at that moment
To understand how this new search model works, it’s worth reading first what GEO is and how it differs from traditional SEO.
Now, the but of the matter: there is no Search Console for AI models.
There is no official dashboard that tells you how many times you were mentioned this week in ChatGPT, nor in what tone, nor against which competitors.
This is where an AI visibility checker comes in.
The 3 metrics you need to look at
Before opening any tool, you need to know what you are measuring. There are three numbers that really matter:
1. Share of Voice in AI
It is the percentage of relevant responses in which your brand appears compared to your competitors.
If the model answers 100 questions in your industry and mentions you in 35 of them, your Share of Voice is 35%.
This is the central metric of the GEO and what it tells you is whether you are gaining or losing ground against those competing for the same prompt.
2. Citation Rate
It measures how often the model cites your domain as a source within its responses.
It is not the same as being mentioned:
A model can provide information without citing your URL, or it can include your URL as a reference without mentioning it by name.
So if you have a high citation rate, this tells us that your content is being used as active reference material.
And this is excellent because it translates to thematic authority.
3. Sentiment Score
That is, in what sense you are mentioned, positive, neutral, or negative.
If the model mentions you in a negative context, that harms your brand just like not appearing.
So you want positive or neutral mentions.
These three metrics (Share of Voice, Citation Rate, and Sentiment Score) are the central KPIs of the GEO. No traditional SEO dashboard reports them.
How to do a free manual check (4-step process)
You don’t have to invest in a tool, you can do a basic audit at zero cost.
It takes between 30 and 45 minutes and gives you an idea of your current status.
Step 1: Define your reference prompts

Think about the 5 to 10 questions your potential customers ask when they are looking for solutions like yours.
Don’t ask about your brand directly as this is not Google Search.
Real search works with questions related to your industry.
Examples for a digital marketing agency in LATAM:
- «What are the best digital marketing agencies in Uruguay?»
- «How does GEO differ from SEO?»
- «What digital marketing strategies should be applied in 2026?»
Step 2: Run those prompts on each model

Open ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity separately and paste each prompt.
Do this in incognito mode to prevent the conversation history from affecting the responses.
Important: in each model, run the same prompt at least 2 times with a few hours in between.
AIs are not deterministic, which is why the same question can generate different answers.
Step 3: Record the results in a table

For each combination (prompt × model), note if your brand appears, in what position within the response, with what tone, and if the model cited your URL as a source.
Step 4: Calculate your base Share of Voice

Divide the number of responses where you appear by the total number of generated responses.
If you ran 10 prompts in 3 models (30 responses) and appeared in 9, your base SoV is 30%.
That number is your starting point. What you do with it (both in terms of content and GEO strategy) reflects how that figure changes in the coming months.
How to automate it with tools
If you want to scale the manual process and monitor it continuously, you need a tool.
Here are the main options available in 2026:
| Tool | Base price | Monitored models | Spanish / LATAM native | Actionable GEO | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peec AI | €85/month | 7 models | ⚠️ Partial | ✅ Yes | ✅ 7 days |
| Profound | $99/month+ | 10+ models | ❌ No | ✅ Yes | ❌ No |
| CreceRank | $49/month | ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes | ✅ 14 days, no card required |
| Otterly AI | $49/month | ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity | ❌ No | ⚠️ Limited | ✅ 7 days |
What exactly does an AI visibility monitoring tool do
In its basic version, these platforms allow you to set up a set of relevant prompts for your industry and run them automatically on the main models (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) at regular intervals.
With that, they build a history: how many times your brand appeared, in what position within the response, with what tone, and if the model cited your URL as a source.
The more comprehensive versions add three layers that the manual process cannot cover:
- Share of Voice comparison against selected competitors.
- Alerts when your visibility drops significantly.
- Actionable module that translates the data into a concrete plan of what to do.
This module is key as it tells you:
- What content to create to cover thematic gaps
- What sources to work on to increase your citation rate
- What press or link building opportunities have the most direct impact on your visibility in AI
Why the language of the prompt matters more than it seems
Profound and Peec AI are technically solid and well-established tools in the English-speaking enterprise market.
- Profound monitors over 10 models and has a very comprehensive insights module.
- Peec AI excels in coverage of 7 platforms from its base plans.
Both are valid options if your main market is the United States or English-speaking Europe.
The problem arises when you use them to monitor a Latin American brand.
These tools apply language and geography filters post-hoc:
Their base prompts are written in English and then translated or filtered by region.
That is not the same as building the prompts directly from how your customer speaks.
A user in Buenos Aires does not ask «what is the best digital marketing agency in Argentina», they ask «what is the best digital marketing agency in Argentina» or «which SEO agency do you recommend for e-commerce».
This difference in formulation changes which sources the model cites, which brands appear, and in what context.
Crecerank is the only tool on this list that built its monitoring prompts directly in Spanish, with benchmarks compared against competitors in the region and local domains (.ar, .uy, .mx, .cl, .co)
What to evaluate before choosing a tool
Beyond price, the most important criteria are:
- Native language of the prompts (not translation)
- Number of monitored models
- Frequency of data updates
- Possibility to configure your own prompts
- And if it includes concrete actionables in addition to monitoring

Real case: we measured 150 prompts from Uruguay and this is what we found
In May 2026, the CreceRank team ran their own experiment:
150 prompts balanced between informational, comparative, and transactional intent, distributed across 4 models (ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overview, and Perplexity) and 3 Spanish-speaking markets (Argentina, Spain, and Uruguay).
We classified each of the 1,610 sources cited by language, site type, platform, and format.
Finding 1: 1 in every 4 sources is in English, even if you ask in Spanish
Although the prompts were 100% in Spanish and localized by country, between 22% and 26% of the cited sources were in English or were global content without clear localization.
| Market | URLs in Spanish | URLs in English / global | % English |
|---|---|---|---|
| Argentina | 313 (65%) | 104 | 22% |
| Spain | 315 (57%) | 145 | 26% |
| Uruguay | 281 (49%) | 132 | 23% |
Producing only in Spanish leaves you covering a quarter of the citation territory. Technical content in English does not compete with local Spanish; it coexists with it in the same responses.
Finding 2: two long YouTube videos outperform twelve Shorts combined
Our second hypothesis was about which is cited more by AI, Shorts or long YouTube videos.
We thought that Shorts would dominate due to the volume of publication.
But observe this: In the three markets, 2 long videos accumulated more citations than 9–12 combined Shorts.
| Market | Long content (URLs / citations) | Shorts (URLs / citations) | Long advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Argentina | 2 / 58 | 2 / 15 | 23× |
| España | 2 / 56 | 2 / 9 | 28× |
| Uruguay | 2 / 48 | 1 / 15 | 18× |
For GEO, long pieces outperform many short clips.
Finding 3: each AI engine consumes a different social network
It turns out there is no single social platform that feeds all models.
The map looks like this:
| Platform | Engines that cite | Main finding |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram and TikTok | Google AI Overview | Practically absent in ChatGPT and Perplexity. |
| ChatGPT | 166 URLs cited by ChatGPT vs 0 in Perplexity. | |
| YouTube | AI Overview and Perplexity | Perplexity is the only engine that consistently mixes platforms. |
| Gemini | Almost none | Ignores UGC content except for marginal exceptions. |
Finding 4: on Instagram, Reels outperform static posts 8 to 1
Within Instagram, format matters as much as the platform.
In all three markets, Reels accounted for between 82% and 93% of all Instagram citations in AI Overview.
In fact, the copy of a static post contributes very little to GEO.
Finding 5: the Reddit cited by AI is mostly in English
Reddit is ChatGPT’s favorite source, but the content of those threads is not in Spanish.
In Argentina, 65% of the cited Reddit are URLs with automatic translation parameters (tl=es-419): threads in English that the model translates on the fly.
Therefore, participating in high-traffic English subreddits has more GEO impact than building a Hispanic community from scratch, because the models already translate by themselves.
The complete experiment, with all tables, methodology, and action plan is already published on our website.
