Try it now: ask ChatGPT about your category, without mentioning your brand.
Did you appear?
If the answer is no, your competitors are getting recommendations that could be yours. Every day.
The good news: appearing in ChatGPT is not magic or luck. It is a process. And in Spanish, almost no one is working on it yet.
At CreceRank, we monitor daily how ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview mention brands in Spain and 11 countries in LATAM. Everything that follows comes from observing real responses, not theory.

Why doesn’t your brand appear in ChatGPT?
ChatGPT builds its responses with two ingredients: what it learned during its training and what it finds when searching the web at the time of the question.
If your brand doesn’t appear, it’s almost always due to one of these three causes:
1. Your website blocks OpenAI’s crawlers. Many firewalls and security plugins block AI bots by default. If GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot can’t read you, you don’t exist for ChatGPT’s search part. And be careful: some hosting services with anti-bot systems can cause even third-party verifiers to give false negatives, so it’s wise to check it thoroughly before assuming anything.
2. No one is talking about you in the sources that the AI consults. When someone asks «best tools for X» or «which company do you recommend for Y», ChatGPT relies on comparative articles, media, review directories, and forums. If you’re not on those pages, you have nowhere to come from.
3. Your content is not citable. Pages without clear answers, data, and structure provide little material for a language model to cite you.
How to make your brand appear in ChatGPT? The 7 steps
They are ordered by impact. The first three are the foundation; the next ones multiply the results.
To make each step concrete, we will use the same example from start to finish: a fintech from Montevideo that offers online payments for SMEs.
Step 1: Open your website to AI crawlers
Check your robots.txt and your firewall to allow at least these OpenAI bots:
- GPTBot: the training bot
- OAI-SearchBot: the ChatGPT search bot
- ChatGPT-User: the one who visits your website when a user requests it
The official list is in the OpenAI crawlers documentation. Do the same with PerplexityBot and Google-Extended if you want to cover the rest of the engines.
Quick check: go to tudominio.com/robots.txt and look for Disallow lines that affect these user-agents. If you use Cloudflare or a security plugin, also check their AI bot blocking section, as it is usually enabled by default.

Example:
The fintech discovers that its WordPress security plugin was blocking «AI bots» in bulk. It disables it for search bots and keeps the rest of the rules. Cost: 10 minutes. Without this step, everything else was useless.
Step 2: Turn your key pages into answers
ChatGPT cites paragraphs, not entire websites.
Each important page on your site should answer a specific question in its first lines: question as title, direct answer of 40 to 60 words below, and detail afterwards. Add frequently asked questions at the end with schema FAQPage.
We have already published a complete guide on how to optimize content for AI search engines in Spanish.
Example:
Instead of a generic «payment solutions» page, the fintech publishes «How to charge online in Uruguay as an SME? 2026 Guide», with real commissions, accreditation times, and a FAQ with the 10 most common questions from its clients.
Step 3: Get mentions where ChatGPT looks
This is the step that is the hardest and moves the needle the most.
ChatGPT’s answers about «best X» repeatedly cite the same type of pages:
| Source type | Examples | How to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Articles «best tools for X» | Sector blogs, marketing media | Outreach to the author with access to your product and data |
| Review directories | G2, Capterra, Google Business | Create a profile and request reviews from real customers |
| Media and press releases | Industry and general press | Publish studies with your own data |
| Communities | Reddit, industry forums, LinkedIn | Participate by contributing, no spam |
| Wikipedia and entity profiles | Wikipedia, Wikidata, Crunchbase | Only if you meet notability criteria |
Example:
The fintech asks Perplexity, «how to charge online in Uruguay?» and notes the mentioned domains: a local media outlet, a payment gateway comparator, and a thread from r/uruguay. That is their list of objectives. Within a month, they manage to appear in the comparator and respond thoughtfully in the Reddit thread.

The sources cited by the AI are your list of mention objectives. Illustrative example.
Getting listed in two or three relevant listings in your category is often worth more than months of your own content without distribution.
Step 4: Strengthen your brand entity
Language models work with entities: consistent and verifiable names.
Use the same brand name everywhere. Complete your schema Organization with the sameAs property pointing to your profiles (LinkedIn, G2, social media). And make sure your «About Us» page explains what you do, for whom, and since when.
The technical reference is at schema.org/Organization.
Step 5: Publish original data
Your own data with methodology is the most cited content by AIs and by the media that feed them.
Surveys of customers, analysis of your sector, price benchmarks: any figure that only you have. Large companies already treat this discipline as an evolution of SEO; BBVA describes it in their analysis «From SEO to GEO».
Example:
The fintech publishes «X-ray of online payments in Uruguayan SMEs: 200 analyzed businesses». A local media outlet picks up the article. Three months later, ChatGPT cites that study when responding about online payments in Uruguay.
Step 6: Take care of reviews and reputation
When ChatGPT compares options, sentiment matters.
Recent and detailed reviews on G2, Capterra, or Google Business directly feed how AI describes you. Ask for reviews after every positive milestone with a customer. And respond to negative ones: those responses are also read.
Step 7: Measure, because this changes every week
ChatGPT’s responses vary by model, by country, and by how the question is phrased.
What it mentions today, it may not mention tomorrow after an update. Without systematic measurement, you don’t know if your actions are working.
What is not measured cannot be improved. And in GEO, what is not measured also cannot be defended when a competitor starts gaining ground.
How to appear in ChatGPT if you sell in Spain, in Latin America or in a local market?
ChatGPT’s responses change depending on the country from which the question is asked.
A user in Mexico and another in Spain receive different brands in response to the same prompt. If you sell in multiple countries, you need to work with local sources: media from the country, local directories, and customer reviews from that market.
Here lies the biggest opportunity right now: in Spain and Latin America, almost no brand is working on this yet. The first to move will secure AI recommendations with relatively little effort. It’s the same effect that early SEO had in the 2000s, but compressed into months.
How to reach the number 1 position in ChatGPT?
In ChatGPT, there is no «position 1» like in Google.
There is being the first brand mentioned, the most repeated, and the best described. The metrics we use to manage it are four:
| Metric | What it measures | Reasonable goal |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility | % of responses where you appear | Grow month by month in your key prompts |
| Share of voice | Your weight against the mentioned competitors | Surpass your direct competitor |
| Mention position | If you are mentioned first, second, or at the end | To be in the top 3 mentions |
| Sentiment | How you are described | Neutral-positive stable |
Chasing «always appearing» in any prompt is unrealistic. Choosing 10 or 20 prompts that represent your ideal customer and mastering those is achievable.
How long does it take for a brand to appear in ChatGPT?
It depends on the action. This table summarizes indicative timelines we observed while monitoring brands:
| Action | Impact | Typical timeframe |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock AI crawlers | Essential base | Days to weeks |
| Citable content on your website | Medium | 4 to 8 weeks |
| Mention in a list that ChatGPT already cites | High | Days after publication |
| Reviews on G2/Capterra | Medium-high | 2 to 6 weeks |
| Study with proprietary data + press | High | 1 to 3 months |
| Established brand entity | High and durable | 3 to 6 months |
How to know if it’s working
You can start for free: ask ChatGPT about your category with 5 different variants, from an incognito window, and note which brands come up and in what order. Repeat it every week.
The limit of this method comes quickly: responses vary by session and by country, and with various prompts, models, and markets it becomes unmanageable by hand.
That’s exactly what CreceRank automates:
- Launch your prompts daily in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview
- It tells you your visibility and that of your competitors, by model and by country
- It shows you which sources the AI cites, so you know where to get mentions
- It prioritizes actionable items: what to publish, where to appear, what to correct first

Conclusion
Appearing in ChatGPT does not depend on a trick: it depends on a system.
Open your website to crawlers, turn your pages into answers, get mentions in the sources that the AI already cites, strengthen your entity, publish your own data, take care of your reviews, and measure every week.
AI models already answer questions about your category every day. The real question is whether your brand appears in those answers.
Do you want to know where you stand today? CreceRank shows you in minutes what the AI says about your brand, what position you appear in, and which competitors are gaining ground. 14 days free, no card required.
